Town Hall with Chancellor Wallcott

On Monday May 20th, School Chancellor Dennis Wallcot will hold a town hall for parents in District 13. He will discuss school achievement, school finances, and the City’s educational goals and priorities. Parents will also be able to ask questions.

We will not be able to attend, so it is important that at least one of the members of our group could be present and take notes, present our petition, and ask the Chancellor when they will plan on building a new school in Downtown Brooklyn to accommodate the population boom.

WHEN: Monday Maty 22nd, 6-7 pm
LOCATION:  P.S. 56 Auditorium, 170 Gates Ave.

If you can attend on the group’s behalf, please email us at chris@dobroschools.org

Presentation to the Community Board 2 Education Committee

This is perhaps the most import meeting for our group to date.  We are on the agenda to speak to the committee about why we need a new public school in the neighborhood.  The Community Board ultimately advises the city by issuing a ‘statement of need’ so that the city allocates money in future budgets for the building of a school.

Making this committee understand that there is a genuine need and a lot of support for a school will go a long way. The more people who can show up for this the better. Before we speak, a graduate student at Pratt Institute and the community board’s 2012-2013 planning fellow, will present the Community District 2 school capacity and needs study he researched and wrote this year. Hopefully he agrees that a new school is needed.

WHEN: May 22, 2013, 6PM
WHERE: Metcalfe Hall, Long Island University, Flatbush and DeKalb avenues

If you think you might be able to attend, please drop me an email an I’ll coordinate:chris@dobroschools.org
